Computed tomographic angiography in intracranial vascular diseases
نویسنده
چکیده
Background. The development of spiral computed tomography (CT) introduced more precise imaging of the vessels also with computed tomographic angiography (CTA). Because it is minimaly invasive method, it was widely accepted by radiologists and clinicians. In early 90 ties CTA also accompanied conventional angiography and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) in imaging of intracranial vascular diseases. CTA is used for detection and evaluation of intracranial aneurysms, vascular malformations, stenoocclusive diseases of intracranial arteries and pathological changes of venous sinuses. Comparing to conventional angiography as the »gold standard«, CTA has high specificity, sensibility and diagnostic accuracy concerning detections of intracranial aneurysms. Regarding vascular malformations, CTA is used for diagnostics and pre and postoperative evaluation of it. CTA can show good results in imaging of venous angiomas, and so invasive conventional angiography can be avoided in this pathology. Stenoses and occlusions of arteries can be diagnosed and evaluated in patients with cerebral vasospasm, patients with acute stroke, and patients with chronical arterial stenoses and occlusions.

Diagnosis of Intracranial Stenosis
The diagnosis of intracranial stenosis has improved with the advent and availability of non-invasive vascular imaging tests. Vascular imaging modalities to consider include transcranial Doppler, magnetic resonance and computed tomographic angiography. While these have strengths and weaknesses, they provide anatomic information. Physiologic and/or hemodynamic data can be gleaned from perfusion i...
متن کاملDetection and monitoring of vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia: a review and assessment of the literature.
Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage can be evaluated using clinical assessment, non-invasive and invasive techniques. An electronic literature search was conducted on English-language articles investigating DCI in human subjects with subarachnoid hemorrhage. A total of 31 relevant papers were identified evaluating the role of clinical assessment, transcranial Doppler, ...
متن کاملComputed Tomographic Angiogram of an Anterior Communicating Artery Aneurysm Causing Acute Retrobulbar Optic Neuropathy: A Case Report
Three-dimensional computed tomographic (3D-CT) angiography is a widespread imaging modality for intracranial vascular lesions. However, 3D-CT angiograms of an anterior communicating artery aneurysm associated with acute retrobulbar optic neuropathy have not been previously described. We present 3D-CT angiograms of an aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery that caused subarachnoid hemorrh...
متن کاملSixty-four-row multislice computed tomographic angiography in the diagnosis and characterization of intracranial aneurysms: comparison with 3D rotational angiography.
BACKGROUND Sixty-four-row multislice computed tomographic angiography (CTA) has great potential for use in vascular studies. The aim of our study was to compare 64-slice CTA with three-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) in the detection and characterization of intracranial aneurysms with special attention to smaller (<3-mm) aneurysms. METHODS In a prospective study, a total of 133 pati...
متن کاملDiagnostic Accuracy of Computed Tomographic Angiography (CTA) in the Management of Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Haemorrhage (SAH)
Subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to ruptured aneurysm is a critical clinical situation demanding a very skilled surgical and medical management. Until now cerebral digital subtraction angiography (DSA) has been used as the criterion standard for aneurysmal detection and planning of their microsurgical treatment. However, as the method for diagnosis of subarachnoid hemorrhage moved from lumbar ...
